PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT firmware as a Slave

The device is a Raspberry Pi 3B architecture based design made by the Raspberry manufacturer Premier Farnell and Hilscher. Additionally the device contains Hilscher's Real-Time Ethernet Controller netX 51 allowing operations in industrial networks such as PROFINET, EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP as slave. netPI was specifically designed for applications on the "Edge" of IT and OT networks. It is part of Hilscher's netIOT system solution and represents herein a completely open ecosystem for implementing own ideas and applications. The system performance is equal to that of the Pi 3. Only the analogue audio, HAT 40 Pin header and the camera port are not supported. The device is delivered with a preinstalled 8GB industrial grade SD card. Additionally it supports a hardware RTC and an 8kB FeRAM for storing data non-volatile at high frequencies. A TPM 1.2 chip for future use in security applications is available(no driver at the moment). The device is based on a secured Linux version and is maintained through a web client. Security functions such as secure boot, https based communications, user management are implemented. To expand the device with additional user software securely the virtualization environment Docker is preinstalled. In so-called containers any software can be deployed. Docker container templates are provided on Docker Hub platform under the registry "hilschernetpi". There for example the well-known debian:jessie (Raspbian OS) is available as container. As made for control cabinet installations the device is top hat rail mountable and powered by 24VDC. Optionally expansion modules of the sensor/actuator level such as RFID, digital/analogue I/O, RS 485/232 can be added to the device. The expansion slot at the device bottom is disclosed for users to allow the design of own modules too.
